Newly posted teachers threaten September 30 demo over unpaid salaries

Newly posted teachers across the country have issued a one-week ultimatum to government over the non-payment of salaries, a situation they describe as unbearable.

The Aggrieved Newly Posted Teachers group, made up of graduates from Colleges of Education and universities, says many of its members have been left stranded, with some going 12 months without pay and others for as long as eight months.

Despite submitting a petition to the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities on September 8, the group claims there has been no meaningful response. Their initial deadline of September 23 has since been extended.

Speaking to Citi News, the group’s Lead Convener, Simon Kofi Nartey, expressed disappointment.

“It is rather unfortunate that as we speak, nothing has been done about the concerns we raised at our press conference. We have no option but to take to the streets to let Ghanaians know what is happening, he said.

According to Nartey, plans for a demonstration are already underway.

“We have already met with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command and agreed on September 30 for the demonstration,”he disclosed.
