The Ghana Police Service has arrested a Nigerian national who was seen in viral videos wearing official Ghana Police uniforms.
The suspect, identified as Esther Obasi, was caught on camera dressed in both Ghana Police camouflage and the standard black police uniform.
The videos sparked public outrage and raised serious concerns about impersonation and the unauthorized use of police attire.
The IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) tracked the suspect to the Prestea area in the Western Region, where she was arrested.
During the investigation, police also identified the officer whose uniform was used.
That officer will face internal disciplinary action.
Esther Obasi is currently in police custody as investigations continue. She will be put before court as soon as possible for prosecution.
The Ghana Police Service has taken the opportunity to warn the public against the unauthorized use or abuse of police uniforms, stating that anyone found culpable will be dealt with according to the law.
