The Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Manager of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Dr Williams Ohene-Adjei, has stated that churches must take proactive role in securing the financial future of their members by adopting the Tier Three Pension Scheme
He said this during a joint camp meeting in Sunyani on 10 August 2025.
Dr Williams Ohene-Adjei said church leaders must take advantage of the Tier Three Pension Scheme and register their congregants to ensure long-term financial security.
Addressing more than 1,500 participants at the 2025 Joint Camp Meeting of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) Mid-West Ghana Conference in Sunyani, Dr Ohene-Adjei said that with most Ghanaians working in the informal sector, churches could play a vital role in encouraging participation in the voluntary pension scheme.
He suggested that churches could allocate a portion of member dues to support contributions into the scheme. “By doing so, every member of the church will be financially secured and thereby lessen members’ overreliance on the churches for financial aid in challenging moments,” he said.
Dr Ohene-Adjei noted that while churches had made commendable efforts in establishing cooperative societies to assist members financially, these should be complemented by structured pension contributions through the Tier Three scheme.
The NPRA official praised the government’s introduction of the Cocoa Farmers Pension Scheme and urged churches to take a similar approach by creating sustainable pension options for their members.
The SDA conference, held under the theme “Called to be Faithful: Commandment of God and Faith of Jesus,” brought together congregants from the Sunyani East, Wamanafo, and Amasu districts.
Also speaking at the event, Pastor Thomas Akosah Agyapong, Director of Stewardship and Strategic Planning for the Mid-West Ghana Conference, applauded the NPRA’s education efforts and encouraged church members to take advantage of the Tier Three sch
