Oliver Barker-Vormawor reacts to viral video of Bawumia hugging Fante Comedy

Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has waded into the controversy surrounding Fante Comedy, the TikToker who was recently released after being arrested for threatening comments about the First Lady and the President.

In a Facebook post, Barker-Vormawor expressed concern after a viral video showed Fante Comedy in a warm embrace with former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, moments after his release.

“I have seen videos of Fante Comedy, one of the TikTokers arrested for saying they will behead the First Lady and kill the President. He was in a warm embrace with the former Vice President Bawumia, receiving a hero’s welcome,” he wrote.

He also referenced Fante Comedy’s own media claims that his prison conditions improved after a phone call from Dr. Bawumia. “In some countries, the second claim will lead to serious questions being asked of the police establishment. But I hear that in Ghana, the Opposition is actually in Government,” Barker-Vormawor noted.

The activist went further to suggest that such public associations would typically harm a presidential hopeful’s reputation in other countries.

“In some countries, that warm embrace will be damaging to a presidential hopeful’s image. But in Ghana, the other presidential hopeful in the same party is linked to the killing of a journalist. He is still a front runner,” he stated.

Concluding his remarks, Barker-Vormawor reflected: “Anyway, I thank God for granting me the serenity to accept the things I do not understand. Shalom.”

The viral video has ignited heated debate online, with some praising Dr. Bawumia’s gesture as humane, while others echo Barker-Vormawor’s concerns about its political and institutional implications.
