Former NPP member and now Director of Field Operations for the United Party, Hopeson Adorye, has revealed that plans for the newly launched political group began the very day Alan Kyerematen resigned from the NPP.
Adorye said the decision to form the United Party was part of a long-term plan but was delayed for strategic reasons.
“If we had registered the party before the 2024 election, the NPP government would have sabotaged it,” he stated.
According to him, the Movement for Change served only as a temporary campaign vehicle for Alan’s independent bid during the last election.
He explained that after the election, the team began the formal process to register the party with the Electoral Commission.
“The EC gave us our provisional license on Alan’s birthday, October 3,” he said on Metro TV’s Good Afternoon Ghana monitored by Lovinghananews.com.
The party, which uses yellow and black as its official colours, now has officers working in all 16 regions.
Adorye confirmed that UP headquarters is located in Accra’s Dzorwulu area, adding that the team is setting up constituency offices nationwide to meet EC requirements for full certification.
He dismissed criticism from NPP members questioning the legitimacy of the party, insisting that the EC thoroughly verified its name, logo, and colours before approval.
