A new survey by Global Info Analytics has projected a likely victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Bediako, in the upcoming Akwatia by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The poll, conducted between August 27 and 28 with a sample size of 2,050 voters across the constituency, shows Bediako leading with 53%, while his closest contender, Solomon K. Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), trails at 47%.
This marks a significant shift from the baseline poll, which had Asumadu slightly ahead at 50% compared to Bediako’s 44%.
The survey also sheds light on the factors shaping voter intentions. A striking 42% of respondents said development projects were the single biggest influence on their decision.
This was followed by concerns about the economy (15%), education (13%) and jobs (10%).
Meanwhile, issues like healthcare (2%), candidate popularity (2%), and sympathy voting (4%) ranked far lower on the list of priorities.
Interestingly, illegal mining (galamsey) — a politically charged issue in Ghana — was cited by 8% of voters as a key factor, underscoring its continued relevance in election debates.
The Akwatia seat has historically been a battleground for both major parties, and the poll results suggest another close contest.
While Bediako appears to have gained momentum in the final stretch, analysts caution that turnout on election day could still swing the results.
