President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Soyelleh Cecilia to serve as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region.
Her nomination was contained in a statement released by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Thursday, October 24, 2025. The appointment, according to the statement, is in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.
The statement, signed by Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, noted that the President’s nomination was formally conveyed through a letter from the Office of the President, referenced OPS.102/25/3571.
Madam Soyelleh Cecilia’s appointment will take effect upon endorsement by the Lawra Municipal Assembly, in line with statutory procedures.
Once confirmed, she will be expected to spearhead local governance efforts, ensure effective implementation of government policies, and promote inclusive development within the municipality.
The nomination forms part of President Mahama’s broader efforts to strengthen decentralisation and enhance leadership at the local government level across the country.
