Professor Raymond A. Atuguba, former Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, has been appointed Acting Director of Legal Education at the General Legal Council (GLC), effective September 1, 2025.
His appointment follows a directive from Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie recalling Justice B.Y.K. Oppong of the Court of Appeal from the position to resume full duties on the bench. Justice
In a letter dated August 8, 2025, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie thanked Justice Oppong for his “significant contribution” to professional legal education, while indicating that a search party will be constituted to appoint a substantive Director.
“I wish to thank you for the significant contribution you made to professional legal education during your time as Director of Legal Education,” Justice Baffoe-Bonnie stated.
The change in leadership at the GLC comes at a time of heightened public interest in reforms to Ghana’s legal education system, with calls for expanded access, improved infrastructure, and modernised curricula.
