A 57-year-old man, identified as Agya Badu and popularly known as Express, has allegedly taken his own life at Oheamadwen in the Shama District of the Western Region after attacking his wife with a machete over a divorce threats.

According to reports from the community, the deceased had for some time now been having marital issues with his wife, who had reportedly informed him of her decision to end the marriage.

His reaction allegedly turned violent earlier in the week when he first attempted to attack her on Monday.

Fearing for her life, the wife reported the initial assault to the police and later summoned him before the chiefs and elders of the community.

Assembly Member for the area, Owu Ewie, confirmed the incident in an interview with Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show host, Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson.

“He had issues with his wife on Monday, he is said to have initially attacked her. His wife who was scared for her life reported the initial attack to the police and later summoned him to the chiefs and elders of the community,” the Assembly member indicated.

He further added that the deceased, who work as a security guard, had since been avoiding home for fear of being arrested.

However, on Thursday evening, after closing from work, he returned and launched another attack.

“He worked as a security guard in a company so after closing from his shift, he came home yesterday evening and attacked his wife again with a machete with the intention of ending her life. His wife got severely injured and has since been admitted at the Efiankwanta Regional Hospital for treatment. He left home after the act and committed suicide by hanging on a tree in the community,” Mr. Ewie added.

The couple reportedly has a three-year-old child. Police have since commenced investigations.

The condition of the wife remains critical as she receives treatment.
