President John Dramani Mahama has been honoured in Singapore with a newly named orchid hybrid, “Vanda John Dramani Mahama,” during a ceremony at the National Orchid Garden on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

The tribute, announced by Jubilee House in a statement, forms part of Singapore’s “VIP Orchids” tradition, where distinguished leaders and visiting heads of state are recognised with unique orchid hybrids.

As part of his visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, President Mahama signed the visitors’ book and received a briefing on the garden’s history and its role in promoting diplomacy.

Officials noted that orchids, celebrated as symbols of resilience and transformation, represent Singapore’s cultural heritage and international friendships.

The “Vanda John Dramani Mahama” now joins a prestigious collection of floral tributes named after global leaders, reinforcing the country’s use of horticulture as a tool of diplomacy.

The president travelled to Japan and Singapore a few days ago to strengthen bilateral ties, explore new investment opportunities, and participate in high-level economic and diplomatic engagements.

A communique from the Office of the President, signed by the Presidential Spokesperson, explained that the trip will begin in Japan, where Mahama is expected to attend the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX).

“At the conference, he will make a presentation at a plenary session on the Economy: Promoting Trade and Investment,” the statement noted.

The communique further outlined that the President will headline the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum in Japan, an event designed to showcase Ghana’s investment opportunities and highlight the Resetting Ghana agenda.

According to the statement, Mahama will also hold bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, as well as with the President of JICA and officials of JETRO to discuss cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and technical partnerships.
