Star Oil demands GHC 20m over defamation claims against Ghanaian YouTuber, Goshers

Star Oil Ghana has accused popular YouTuber Benjamin Kojo Mensah, better known as Goshers, of defaming the company after he alleged he was shortchanged at one of its fuel stations.

In a demand letter dated September 4, 2025, the company’s lawyers, Vanem & Associates, wrote;

“You maligned the Star Oil brand by alleging that you paid more for the same or near the same quantity of fuel you were accustomed to buying. These statements are baseless, unfounded, and accentuated by malice.”

Star Oil said CCTV footage and a series of three industry-standard 10-litre can tests proved its dispensers at the Anyinase station were properly calibrated.

“The results were 10.02L, 10.03L, and 10.04L, confirming the accuracy of our pumps,” the lawyers stated, adding that flow-rate verification also confirmed the right quantity was dispensed.

Despite being shown the results, the company said Goshers refused to retract the video and instead dismissed the request. “In response to our client’s public clarification, you simply stated ‘All the best,’” the lawyers noted.

Star Oil also accused him of further defaming the company by claiming he had been threatened over the phone by one of its representatives.

“This allegation is utterly false. By imputing unprofessionalism, you again defamed our client,” the letter said.

The company is demanding that Goshers delete the video from YouTube, issue an “unqualified apology” on both Facebook and YouTube within 24 hours, and keep it visible for at least 21 days.

Failure to comply, the lawyers warned, would leave them no choice but to sue for GHC20 million in damages, plus punitive damages and a perpetual injunction.
