Stop turning offices into party grounds – Linda Ocloo cautions MMDCEs

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has issued a stern warning to some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region, accusing them of abuse of office, inefficiency, and lack of discipline in managing their assemblies.

Ms. Ocloo expressed concern that the conduct of certain executives was undermining President John Dramani Mahama’s reset agenda for the region.

“I have reports that many of you have turned your official offices into party meeting grounds, filling them with unauthorised officials and visitors, while your staff, the very people who you are supposed to lead, are denied access to discuss official matters,” she during a media engagement organized by the Regional Coordinating Council and the 29 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Describing such conduct as “abuse of office”, the Minister condemned the practice of allowing unauthorised individuals to interfere in official duties.

“This is abuse of office and unacceptable. Some of you have surrounded yourselves with personal assistants who have virtually taken over your official responsibilities. This must stop immediately. Assemblies cannot be run by unapproved and unappointed individuals hiding behind your authority,” she stressed.

Ms. Ocloo also warned that excuses would no longer be tolerated, making it clear that non-performing executives risk removal if they fail to deliver on their mandates.

“The era of excuses is over. I will not hesitate to recommend the removal of non-performing chief executives. The people of Greater Accra deserve better, and they will get better, with or without you,” she declared.

The Regional Minister urged the MMDCEs to focus on their core duties and work in the interest of the people rather than prioritizing political activities.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring effective local governance and stressed that accountability and results would guide performance evaluations moving forward.
