The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has launched a GH¢1 million women empowerment initiative dubbed the “One Heart” Fund to support economic growth and reduce poverty in the constituency.

The fund, which comes with a seed capital of one million Ghana cedis, is expected to benefit about 5,000 women over the next two to three years.

The initiative will provide interest-free loans to women to enable them start or expand their businesses.

Speaking at the launch, Hon. Suhuyini, who also serves as Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, described the intervention as a long-term investment in the economic future of Tamale North.

He noted that empowering women financially would not only improve household incomes but also stimulate economic activity across the constituency.

“As leaders, we must invest in our people in ways that create sustainable opportunities. The ‘One Heart’ Fund is designed to give women the financial backing they need to stand on their own and support their families,” he stated.

Under the first phase of disbursement, 20 women groups received GH¢20,000 each, totaling GH¢400,000.

The loans are interest-free, easing the financial burden on beneficiaries and allowing them to focus on growing viable businesses.

The MP indicated that the remaining funds would be released in phases to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective monitoring of the businesses supported under the programme.

Since assuming office, Hon. Suhuyini has rolled out several pragmatic interventions aimed at alleviating poverty and improving livelihoods in Tamale North.

The “One Heart” Fund adds to these efforts, reinforcing his commitment to grassroots development.

Beneficiaries of the fund expressed gratitude to the MP, pledging to use the money judiciously to establish and expand businesses that would improve their living standards and create employment opportunities for others in the community.

The initiative is expected to significantly enhance women’s participation in local commerce and contribute meaningfully to poverty reduction in Tamale North.
