Negotiations over Ghana’s new national daily minimum wage are expected to conclude next week, according to sources close to the National Tripartite Committee.
Labour representatives on the committee are said to be pushing for an increase of more than ten percent,
But government and employers are reportedly cautious, citing Ghana’s ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme and other economic constraints.
General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Tanko Musah, confirmed that discussions are progressing steadily and that a final decision is expected soon.
“The rule of the game is that you communicate outcomes. Everything on the table is a proposal and subject to change, so let us all hold our figures,”
Mr. Musah told journalists in Accra.
President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, also indicated that once the new minimum wage is announced, it will pave the way for the next phase of salary negotiations.
“The minimum wage will be announced soon, and from there we have set the date for discussions on the base pay,” Mr. Carbonu said.
The new wage announcement will mark a crucial step in determining the 2026 base pay for public sector workers, as the committee continues to balance workers’ demands with the realities of the national economy.
