Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has clarified that Ghana’s decision to accept African deportees from the United States is not in support of U.S. immigration policies, particularly those introduced under President Donald Trump.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, September 17, Ablakwa made it clear that Ghana’s actions are rooted in humanitarian concern and solidarity with fellow Africans.
“We didn’t agree to this because we agree with President Trump’s immigration policies. We are not doing the U.S. a favour; we are doing fellow Africans a favour,” the Minister said.
He explained that the individuals being received are African nationals in distress who deserve compassion and support from the continent.
“We are offering them refuge, we are offering them hope. We want them to come back home and be comfortable,” he added.
