The Wa District Magistrate Court has convicted three individuals for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.

The convicts, Yiritang Boosi, Yahaya Samad, and Adams Alhassan, were prosecuted on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, following their arrest for possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.

According to a press release signed by the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, the accused persons, who had previously been remanded in custody, reappeared before the court presided over by Simon Kof Bediako, where they pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court convicted the three on their own pleas and sentenced each to a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢2,400, or in default, nine months’ imprisonment.

The statement further urged the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information to assist efforts to combat crime and enhance security across the Upper West Region.
