We will come after you – Muntaka warns online fearmongers

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, delivered a sharp public warning to individuals who leverage social media and online platforms to “create panic and fear”, asserting that Ghana’s security apparatus is now equipped with advanced tools to track and apprehend offenders.

The minister’s caution was issued in Ho on Friday, December 5, 2025, during the commissioning of the new Volta Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), an event graced by President John Dramani Mahama.

The inauguration of the new Volta Regional Command marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to strengthen national security operations through the regional expansion of intelligence support.

The new facility is equipped with advanced surveillance systems, analytical tools, and real-time data equipment, positioning it as a critical hub for intelligence gathering and enhancing the speed of security responses in the region.

The minister emphasised that the NSB’s expanded regional presence—which follows the opening of the Eastern Regional Office in Koforidua in September—is systematically closing intelligence gaps nationwide.

He detailed the aggressive expansion plan, noting that the opening in Ho will soon be followed by additional offices in Sunyani and Techiman to serve the Bono and Bono East regions.

“According to him, four new regional commands are expected to be operational by the end of the year, bringing intelligence support closer to communities and improving coordination among security agencies.”

The minister directly addressed the misuse of technology, assuring the public that while the new systems are not intended to intrude on private lives, they will be used decisively against those who attempt to destabilise the country via digital means.

“This facility is not to spy on you. It is to make sure every citizen goes about his or her duty without watching his or her back,” he assured the public.

However, the caution to offenders was delivered without compromise:

“To our citizens who use technology online and other means to create panic and fear, the time for you to stop is here. And I can assure you, we will come after you. You will have to stop or we will come after you. Now we have what it takes to track you, to observe what you are doing, to trace you wherever you are hiding.”

The minister stressed the need for a unified approach to security challenges, urging full cooperation between the NSB and other key services. He argued that no single agency can manage the country’s multifaceted security challenges alone.

The minister urged the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Prisons Service to collaborate closely with the NSB to maximise the effectiveness of the new intelligence capabilities.

He also highlighted ongoing infrastructural investments, noting “ongoing upgrades to the NSB office in Labone and improvements in cyber intelligence operations”, which have already enhanced investigations into online offences and contributed significantly to public safety.

Alhaji Muntaka commended the Acting Director-General and staff of the NSB for their dedication and encouraged residents of the Volta Region to support the new command, assuring them that the centre is ready to protect the public, secure the country’s borders, and reinforce national stability.
