The Ministry of Transport has pledged to address the long-standing grievances of railway workers who have gone nearly a year without pay.
The affected employees have expressed deep frustration over the delays and have threatened to strike and picket on September 30 if their concerns are not addressed.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series, Transport Minister Joseph Nikpe assured that the government is actively working on a solution.
“The Ghana Railway company’s operations have declined over the years due to infrastructure deterioration which has limited its capacity to generate sufficient revenue to cover its operational cost including staff salary. We’re engaging with Ministry of Finance and stakeholders to develop a sustainable solution going forward. Ladies and Gentlemen i must add that we feel for the workers and we’ve gotten close to resolving this issue and getting them their salaries,” he said.
The move comes as calls grow for urgent action to prevent disruption of essential transport services and to safeguard the livelihoods of railway employees.
