The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, led a high-powered delegation to Bimbila following a devastating rainstorm that caused widespread destruction in parts of Bimbila and Kpandai in the Northern Region.

The visit came after a comprehensive situation report was submitted by the Northern Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) through the Minister to the Director-General, Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon.

The report detailed extensive damage to residential buildings, schools and other properties, leaving several families displaced and in urgent need of assistance.

In response, Major (Rtd) Dr. Kuyon personally led a team to the affected communities to assess the extent of destruction and deliver relief items to support victims.

The items were officially presented to the Northern Regional Director of NADMO, who is expected to coordinate with the affected District Assemblies to ensure onward distribution to victims in Bimbila and Kpandai.

Addressing residents during the visit, Hon. Ali Adolf John expressed government’s deep concern over the destruction caused by the storm and assured affected families of swift intervention.

He explained that upon receiving the detailed report from the Regional NADMO office, he immediately engaged the Director-General to secure prompt national attention to the situation.

He commended Major (Rtd) Dr. Kuyon for what he described as a rapid response and personal commitment to supporting the affected communities.

The Minister noted that although natural disasters are often unpredictable, government remains committed to cushioning victims through timely relief support and long-term recovery measures.

He emphasized that the distribution of relief items would be conducted transparently to ensure the most affected households benefit.

Hon. Adolf further assured residents that government would continue to collaborate with District Assemblies, NADMO officials and other stakeholders to develop preventive strategies aimed at minimizing the impact of similar disasters in the future.

As part of the visit, the Regional Minister and the NADMO Director-General paid a courtesy call on the Regent of Bimbila to express solidarity with the traditional authority and the people.

The delegation also paid homage to the Ya-Na, King of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace, where they formally briefed him on the situation and reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting affected communities within his traditional area.

The Minister underscored the vital role of traditional leaders in mobilizing community support and maintaining calm during emergencies, describing their cooperation as critical to effective disaster management.

Residents who interacted with the delegation expressed appreciation to government and NADMO for the swift response and pledged their cooperation during the distribution exercise.

The recent rainstorm caused significant destruction to homes and public facilities in parts of Bimbila and Kpandai, displacing several families and disrupting livelihoods.

NADMO officials say assessment efforts are ongoing to determine the full scale of damage and identify additional needs.

Government has reiterated its commitment to restoring normalcy in the affected communities and ensuring that victims receive the necessary support to rebuild their lives.
