Mahama Inspects New Cardiology Centre Project at Tamale Teaching Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has inspected ongoing construction works on a state-of-the-art cardiology centre at the Tamale Teaching Hospital as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Northern Region.

The facility, being developed under the MahamaCares (Ghana Medical Trust Fund), is expected to significantly improve specialised healthcare delivery in Ghana, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

When completed, the cardiology centre will focus on advanced care for heart-related conditions, addressing a major gap in Ghana’s healthcare system where access to specialised cardiac services remains limited.
The project is also expected to ease the burden on patients in northern Ghana, many of whom currently travel long distances to Accra or even outside the country to access advanced cardiac care.

By bringing these critical services closer to underserved populations, the initiative aims to improve early diagnosis, timely intervention, and overall health outcomes.

During the inspection, President Mahama engaged with engineers and health officials overseeing the project and expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work.

He reiterated that investments in healthcare infrastructure remain a central priority of his administration’s broader development agenda.

According to the President, expanding access to modern, well-equipped medical facilities is key to improving the quality of healthcare delivery nationwide.

He further emphasised that strengthening tertiary healthcare institutions such as the Tamale Teaching Hospital will play a crucial role in addressing the rising burden of non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular conditions.

President Mahama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services across all regions of the country.
