A woman believed to be in her late 30s has been found dead in an abandoned quarry at Gomoa Asarekrom, near Buduburam, sparking fear renewed safety concerns among residents.

The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, with residents uncertain whether she was killed elsewhere and dumped at the site or died within the quarry.

According to locals, the Sarpong quarry—abandoned since 2016—has become a hotspot for criminal activity due to dense overgrown vegetation and lack of security presence.

Speaking to Adom News, the Guantuahene of Gomoa Asarekrom, Nana Nyarko Ababio, revealed that the body had been lying at the scene since Friday evening without being removed.

He appealed to the Ghana Police Service and environmental health authorities in the Gomoa East District to urgently retrieve the body to prevent decomposition and potential health hazards.

Nana Nyarko Ababio further called on the government to take decisive action against the owner of the abandoned quarry, warning that the site poses a serious threat to the community.

He disclosed that more than 20 bodies have reportedly been retrieved from the quarry since it ceased operations, raising alarming concerns about security and safety in the area.
