The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that Ghana’s digital road tolling system is approaching the final stage of its bidding process, with the operator set to be appointed soon.
Speaking on Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, January 5, Agbodza revealed that the procurement, which has already gone through two stages, is expected to conclude by the end of the month.
He said that once an operator is selected, public awareness and education on the new system will commence.
The Minister explained that the project, which eliminates physical toll booths, aligns with ECOWAS recommendations for regional digital tolling. He stressed that the initiative would improve efficiency, ensure proper revenue collection, and support the maintenance of Ghana’s public roads.
Agbodza added that his Ministry will collaborate with the Ministries of Transport, Interior, and Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation to guarantee smooth enforcement and compliance when the system is launched.
“I am aware that the stage of which they are is the bidding. The ministry is working together on a particular data, which determines exactly the vehicular traffic volumes across the public road network. That has been happening for the past one month. I am aware that ends this month. We’ve gone through two stages of the bidding process already. I will be able to come back to you in the course of the next two weeks to tell you exactly when the overall procurement program would end and when the operator will be selected,” he stated.
