A police officer on traffic duty at the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange was reportedly assaulted by a group of individuals after he attempted to stop a driver who was driving against traffic.

According to an eyewitness, the officer flagged down a vehicle with registration number M-26-GR 1024 for using a one-way road in violation of traffic regulations.

What should have been a routine enforcement stop quickly turned violent when the officer was set upon by a mob.
The eyewitness alleged that the individuals involved in the attack were Muslim, though it remains unclear whether the assault was religiously motivated or simply a case of mob action against law enforcement.
The officer sustained injuries during the attack.

As of now, no official statement has been released by the Ghana Police Service regarding the incident or whether any arrests have been made.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of police officers on the roads and the growing trend of mob attacks on law enforcement personnel simply for carrying out their duties.
Many are calling for swift action to bring the perpetrators to book.
