Malawi’s former president Peter Mutharika has taken an early lead in this week’s election, in which he faced off for the fourth time against incumbent Lazarus Chakwera, provisional results from one-quarter of councils showed. Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Wisdom Yayra Kwaku Deku has revealed that several institutions owe the Authority huge sums of money. The NIA offers services to these institutions by providing access to biometric data of Ghanaians which these institutions require for their daily operations. The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has emphasised the need for greater investment in athletics and school sports to improve Ghana’s future performances at international competitions.
