Contest me with ideas, vision and track record – Bawumia to competitors

Former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has thrown down the gauntlet to his rivals in the party’s upcoming leadership race, urging them to compete based on vision, policies, and proven achievements rather than divisive rhetoric.

Addressing the NPP New York 33rd Anniversary celebration on Sunday, August 24, Dr Bawumia said the future of the party and Ghana required leadership defined by integrity and competence, not tribal or religious propaganda.

“If you want to contest me, come with a vision, come with your ideas, come with your track record, come with your integrity, and let us decide,” he told the gathering.

Flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia expressed concerns over the decision by some candidates in the NPP flagbearership race to engage in tribal and religious politics.

According to him, it is worrying that they will go on that tangent in an internal election to choose a flagbearer for their party.

The former vice president was addressing party faithful on Sunday, August 24, 2025, when he made this known.

“As we go into the primaries, I am very concerned and troubled that some of our presidential aspirants have embarked on religious and tribal bigotry and propaganda against me. In a desperate attempt to win votes, they totally ignore the data and findings on why we lost the 2024 election and want to mislead delegates and the party wings with such propaganda,” he said.

He could not fathom why an aspirant would tell delegates to reject him just because he is Mamprusi and the Kusasis will not vote for him when the available data does not back his claim.

“An aspirant has said delegates should not vote for me because I am a Mamprusi man and that I will lose votes in the Kusasi and other areas. This is very unfortunate and demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the situation,” Bawumia revealed.
