Government has made available GHC130 million to resume the reconstruction of La General Hospital.

This was announced by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh when he paid a working visit to the site on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

The reconstruction of the La General Hospital has lingered since 2020 after the old facility was demolished. Construction started last year without a dedicated source of funding after more than 3 years since the project was abandoned.

The Minister in an interaction with contractors of the project reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the completion of the La General hospital redevelopment project.

He disclosed that government has shown its commitment to the completion of the project through an allocation of some GHC130 million for the project.

“I have engaged the Minister of Finance and he promises that work will be activated on site. To tell you the truth, an allocation has been made for this project. Government has made an allocation of about GHC130 million so it is not a project we are taking lightly at all,” he stated.

He urged contractors to remain diligent in their work and assured them that government will process their payment soon.

“If you have any challenge, please let us know. It may not be fair that you have a challenge and your employer will not know. Let us know where and when we can help you.

“Let us all in good faith remain on site so that we can complete the work so that we will also pursue your payment for you. Be rest assured, it is something that is very dear to my heart,” he added.

The Minister was accompanied by the MP for the area, Rita Odoley Sowah, the MCE and some officials from the ministry.

The La General hospital is public hospital that was formerly known as the La Polyclinic. It serves the healthcare needs of the public in and around La and the capital city.

In 2020, a major redevelopment project was initiated to upgrade the facility into a modern 160-bed hospital.
