Renowned filmmaker Ivan Quashigah has been appointed as the Chairman of the newly inaugurated Board of the Ghana National Film Authority (NFA), following a presidential appointment in accordance with the Development and Classification of Film Act (Act 935).

The Board was officially inaugurated on Monday, August 4, 2025, with the mandate to regulate, promote, and support the growth of Ghana’s film industry. Established in 2016 under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the NFA plays a crucial role in the classification of films, policy advocacy, and industry development.

Quashigah, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Farmhouse Productions, brings decades of experience and innovation to the role. Trained in directing and scriptwriting at the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), he also holds an Executive Master’s degree in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

His credits include the celebrated youth television series Things We Do for Love and Yolo (You Only Live Once).

With over 18 international and local accolades to his name, including a FESPACO award for Best Short Feature, Quashigah is expected to steer the Board in collaboration with the Executive Secretary to elevate industry standards and amplify Ghanaian storytelling on the global stage.

Also appointed to the board is celebrated actress and producer Kafui Danku Pitcher, who will serve as Executive Secretary. Veteran actor Augustine Abbey, popularly known as Idikoko, will represent the Film Producers Association of Ghana.

Other members of the newly constituted board include Oladele Kwaku Aribike representing the Copyright Office; Mabel Cudjoe from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; Emmanuel Ofori from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations; and Dr Rebecca Ohene-Asah from the National Film and Television Institute (now part of UNIMAC).

George Bosompem will serve on behalf of the Ghana Academy of Film and Television Arts, while Assey Tamakloe represents Women in Film and Television. Zakaria Abdulai will sit for the Collective Management Organisation of Audio Visual Rights Owners, and Rukiyatou Naa Ayiwaley Antah represents the Film Distributors and Marketers Association of Ghana.

Alejandro Peterson Davids White-Cross will represent the Film Crew Association of Ghana. Two positions on the Board, representing the Ghana Actors Guild and a television station, are yet to be filled.

With this newly appointed board, the Ghana National Film Authority is poised to intensify efforts in revitalising the local film industry and enhancing its contribution to national development and cultural diplomacy.
