Juaboso Government Hospital is poised for significant upgrades, with plans to expand its capacity to 120 beds.

The announcement comes after a promise made earlier this year by the Minister of Health, who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for Juaboso.

The government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Health, is committed to enhancing the hospital’s facilities to meet the growing healthcare needs of the region.

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, alongside Mr. Ben Ampomah Nkansah, the Director of Infrastructure at the Ministry of Health, visited Juaboso to inspect the site designated for the hospital’s expansion.

During the site inspection, Mr. Nkansah shared details about the project with the media. He revealed that the hospital had reached a level where it was due for an upgrade, with plans to increase its bed capacity to 120.

The expansion project will include the construction of a new maternity department, an accident and emergency ward, a surgical unit, physiotherapy facilities, and a laboratory. In addition to these new developments, the existing facilities at the hospital will undergo significant renovations.

Mr. Nkansah also highlighted the inclusion of a medical waste management system, mechanical installations for the hospital’s various departments, and improvements in ICT infrastructure.

Another key aspect of the expansion is the addition of an eye center and a dental unit, both of which will be equipped with a CT screening facility. These upgrades are expected to improve the quality of healthcare services in the district.

The project will also involve extending the hospital’s fencing to enhance safety and security on the premises. Mr. Nkansah mentioned that the expansion is expected to be completed within two years.

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, emphasized the importance of this project, noting that the hospital was built many years ago, and the district’s population has since grown significantly. He stated that the hospital must be expanded to meet current healthcare demands and provide high-quality services to the community.

The Minister also discussed the procurement process for the project, explaining that after the government allocated funds in the 2025 budget for the hospital’s expansion, the next step was to ensure the engineers and contractors were on-site to begin their work.

He stated that the most important aspect of the project was not just the official ceremonies like the sod-cutting but ensuring that the hospital expansion was completed successfully for the people of Juaboso.

Nana Ofori Ahenka II, the Chief of Sefwi Boinzan and a board member of the Ghana Health Service Council, thanked the president for appointing one of their own as the Minister of Health.

He also expressed gratitude to the government for including the Juaboso Government Hospital expansion in the 2025 budget. Nana Ofori Ahenka called on the people of Juaboso to offer their support to the engineers and contractors once the construction work begins.

The contractors are preparing to start work at the site as soon as possible, marking a significant step towards improving healthcare delivery in Juaboso and surrounding areas.
