Kanye West has ignited a firestorm of controversy and concern after posting and quickly deleting a “betrayal list” on social media that included his 12-year-old daughter, North West, and NBA superstar LeBron James.
The list, which the rapper claimed named people who had caused him pain “that no one person can fix,” has fueled rumors of a rift with his eldest daughter and resurfaced his past criticisms of James.
The inclusion of North West is particularly startling given their very public bond. She has frequently been seen with West and his wife, Bianca Censori, and even starred in his “TALKING” music video. However, reports suggest disagreements over her fashion choices may have driven a wedge between them.
LeBron James’s name on the list also raised eyebrows. While the two have no known direct feud, West has a history of referencing the basketball icon. In his 2016 track “FACTS,” he took aim at Nike over its treatment of employees, rapping, “Gave LeBron a billi’ not to run away.” West has also previously claimed that powerful figures can “control” James, comments that have resurfaced in the wake of the post.
The bizarre list extended beyond real-life figures to include fictional characters like Curious George and Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants, leading some observers to question the post’s intent while others found it alarming.
This is not the first time West has publicly listed his grievances; a similar list circulated in March, naming former collaborators, major brands, and entire groups. The incident comes as his former wife, Kim Kardashian who also appeared on the list has recently made subtle jabs in interviews about her past relationships and her journey toward self-reliance.
