Ghanaian media personality Captain Smart has criticised the government over the arrest and impending extradition of Swedru-based businessman Abu Trica, who has been indicted for allegedly defrauding elderly Americans of over $8 million.
In a video shared on X on December 16, 2025, the outspoken journalist questioned why Ghana continues to allow foreign security agencies, particularly the FBI, to arrest and extradite Ghanaian youth. According to him, while wrongdoing must be addressed, the state must also reflect on the broader socio-economic issues pushing young people into crime.
Captain Smart warned that if the government continues down this path without addressing youth unemployment and systemic challenges, it risks losing public support ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“I don’t support Abu Trica if he is guilty, but look at the number of youth being taken out of this country,” he said, adding that national resources have been exploited with little benefit to ordinary citizens.
