Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has clarified why she declined a drink offered to her during a visit to the Ga Mantse’s palace, saying it was purely for health reasons and not an act of disrespect.
Speaking on Okay FM, she explained that the drink presented was Schnapp, but due to the medication she was taking, her doctor had strictly warned her against consuming anything alcoholic.
Wendy Shay noted that she visited the palace out of respect for traditional authority ahead of her performance and would never intentionally disregard customs.
She stressed that her decision was guided solely by medical instructions.
“I’m not arrogant at all,” she added. “I respect traditions, but my doctor told me not to let alcohol even touch my tongue, especially since I had a show coming up and needed to stay fit.”
