The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has apprehended a British national and two Ghanaian accomplices at Kotoka International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle 38 kilograms of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis into the country.
The arrest occurred during a routine inspection at the arrival terminal, where security personnel intercepted two pieces of luggage containing 25 slabs of the illicit substance concealed in false compartments.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects were operating as a group, with the narcotics tightly wrapped and labeled using methods consistent with international drug trafficking operations.
NACOC has confirmed that the substances will be forwarded to the Ghana Standards Authority for laboratory testing to confirm their composition. The suspects remain in custody and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.
This incident marks the latest in a series of drug interdictions at Ghana’s main international airport. Just last month, NACOC arrested a suspect behind an attempted trafficking operation involving 8 kilograms of cocaine destined for the United Kingdom, revealing sophisticated concealment methods designed to evade security detection.
Authorities have intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking through Ghana’s entry points, employing surveillance and intelligence-led operations to disrupt international narcotics networks operating between West Africa and Europe.
