Prestea-Huni-Valley MP Supports 65 Students with GH¢200k scholarship package

Sixty-five students from the Prestea-Huni-Valley Constituency have received GH¢200,000 worth of scholarship from their Member of Parliament, Wisdom Cudjoe.

Speaking at the presentation of the scholarship package, MP Wisdom Cudjoe described the initiative as a sustainable effort to support the payment of students’ school and hostel fees. He challenged the beneficiaries to study hard to justify the support they are receiving.

“Today’s programme is geared towards helping our students to pay their school fees and hostel fees. It’s not just a one-day thing but will be a continuous project. We will continue to receive applications and call them to give them the support they need. Besides this official one, within the year we have been able to pay the fees of a lot of students which is not official.

“We have also advised the students to keep learning in other to be able to come and take up the mantle from us when we are old to do so. Adding it all up, we can say we have donated about GH¢200,000 to our students to support the payment of their school fees and hostel fees,” he explained.

He further highlighted the rationale for the support, which he hoped to open it up to support more students.

Wisdom Cudjoe recounted the background of his educational support initiative, highlighting its roots in his earlier tenure as District Chief Executive (DCE).

He said the intervention, which began as a district-level support scheme to assist brilliant but needy students, has now been revived and expanded under his leadership as MP to provide direct financial aid to tertiary students across the constituency.

“The history behind it is that some time ago I became a DCE where I did research and realized children in this district thus Huni Valley need a lot of assistance to enable them study. So, I decided that any money that came to the assembly, 2% will be used to help students. At that time, we were able to help a lot of students who were enrolling in nursing training and teacher training, but we lost the election in 2016, and we couldn’t continue the programme. God being so good, in 2021 when I was given the opportunity to become an MP again, I rekindled the programme but it was difficult.

“But now that this government has come to power again, I have lifted the help I give to students. This is the second batch. The students were about 65 where each person received GH¢3,000 to pay some of their school fees or hostel fees. Also, the applications of about forty-five will receive their support in the first quarter of 2026,” he explained.
