Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) has revealed that only one of its five elevators is currently functioning, crippling smooth service delivery.
Despite heavy investment in preventive maintenance, four of the hospital’s lifts remain out of service, creating delays for both patients and staff.
Briefing Parliament’s Health Committee during a visit on Thursday, September 4, Director of Medical Services, Dr Leslie Adams Zakaria, warned that without urgent repairs, patients may be left with no option but to use the hospital’s long walkways.
“For preventive maintenance, we pay so much. We have just about five lifts, only one is working as we speak, and we have reserved that for the movement of patients and if that breaks down, we will be forced to use the bridge way,” he said.
