Shatta Wale symbolizes a generation searching for belonging – Victoria Hamah

Victoria Hamah says the huge turnout at ShattaFest proves that populism is rising in Ghana.

The former Deputy Minister of Communications described Shatta Wale as “a symbol of a generation searching for belonging” in a country where economic hardship and unemployment have weakened trust in formal institutions.

She said the concert was not just entertainment but a “social movement in search of meaning.”

“The Shatta Movement brings together the unemployed youth of Nima and the middle class of East Legon.

“It’s a community that challenges elite definitions of success,” she noted a social media post sighted by Lovinghananews.com.

Hamah added that this kind of unity reflects a shift in Ghana’s social structure, where cultural figures like Shatta Wale command more influence than political leaders.

However, she cautioned that such popularity could become unstable if not guided by purpose.

“This energy shows that the youth are ready for change, but it needs direction,” she stated.
