You were my compass, my big brother” – Sam George mourns the late Omane Boamah

Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Samuel Nartey George, has penned a deeply emotional tribute following the tragic death of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash.

In a Facebook post filled with grief and disbelief, Sam George described Dr. Omane Boamah not just as a colleague, but as a mentor, father figure, and his “guiding light” in both politics and life.

“No one has been of greater help or support to me in my political career. I call you Boss and you call me Bro,” he wrote. “You didn’t just care about my politics, you cared and loved my family. You chose the school for my kids and even ask me every term about their performance.”

Struggling to come to terms with the tragedy, George said his “faith is shaken” and that “composure is a distant reality” as he mourns the man who guided him in his new ministerial role.

“You have been my compass and guiding light these past 7 months since I was appointed Minister. Preparing me for Cabinet and showing me the ropes. Who do I turn to now?” he lamented.

The late Dr. Omane Boamah was among eight people killed when a Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter crashed near Adansi in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6. The aircraft was en route from Accra to Obuasi when it lost radar contact shortly after takeoff.

Other victims include Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel.

President Mahama has ordered all national flags to fly at half-mast in honour of the deceased. The nation continues to mourn the loss of some of its finest public servants
