    5 suspects arrested in connection with killing of Abamba queen mother at Atebubu

    The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested five additional suspects in connection with the killing of Nana Serwaa Gyankroma, the Queen mother of Abamba on February 26, 2026 at her residence at Atebubu.

    The suspects are; Nana Yaw Bediako, alias Nana Yaw who has confessed to carrying out the murder, Abdul Razak Ibrahim Langa, alias Zak who was present at the scene and Nana Owusu Sankofi II, also known in private life as Charles Kofi Owusu, the Chief of Akokoa who contracted the others to carry out the murder.

    Suspect Emmanuel Agyemang Darko, the Abamanhene of Akokoa and Bukari Amadu, a driver.

    These 5 suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigation.

    Three other suspects namely; Michael Owusu Femi, Rafiu Haruna and Mustapha Fatawu Adamu were earlier arrested have since being arraigned before the Techiman District Court where they have been remanded in police custody to reappear on May 31, 2026.

    Briefing the media at Atebubu on Friday, May 22, the Bono Regional Police Commander, DCOP Shaibu Osei disclosed that one of the suspects, Abdul Razak Ibrahim who was arrested at Kasoa over preparations to commit robbery informed police that he knew about that the Queen mother’s murder case.

    According to the police, the suspect Abdul Razak Ibrahim also indicated to the police that he was present when the Queeen mother was shot and the ghost of the Queen mother has been tormenting him and as such wants to confess everything.

    Following intensive interrogation, suspect Abdul Razak Ibrahim confessed that suspect Nana Yaw Bediako, alias Nana Yaw was the person who shot the Queen mother.

    Suspect Nana Yaw Bediakoand admitted to the crime and mentioned suspect Nana Owusu Sankofi II, also known in private life as Charles Kofi Owusu, the Chief of Akokoa as the one who contracted them to kill the Queen mother with a promise to pay them GHC50,000.

    Police investigations further reveal that the murder contract was communicated through an intermediary identified as Issahahku Alhassan, alias Sule Yagani who is currently serving a prison sentence at Ankaful Maximum Security prison but in custody at the Sunyani Central Prison pending an appeal and hearing of his conviction.

    The suspect stated that after carrying out the murder the chief paid only GHC40,000 leaving a balance of GHC10,000.

    Suspect Nana Yaw Bediako noted that his repeated demands for the balance was met with threats by the Chief, as a result he decided not to return the pistol used in committing the crime.

    Acting on intelligence, the police team on May 19, 2026 together with suspect Nana Yaw Bediako proceeded to Kwawudie where suspect Nana Owusu Sankofi II, 56, was arrested at his private residence.

    Police also revealed that during the arrest of the chief of Akokoa, he allegedly attempted to offer GH¢200,000 to officers to avoid detention, making an immediate payment of GH¢100,000, which has been retained as evidence.

    The deceased, Nana Serwaa Gyankoma was a resident of Atebubu where she operated a restaurant known as Ohemaa’s Kitchen.

    On February 25, 2026, she was returning home from work, accompanied by one of her workers, Kofi Luis. As soon as she alighted from her vehicle at the entrance of her residence, two armed men shot her multiple times, no valuables were taken from the deceased.

    After the attack, they reportedly fled to a hotel near the Atebubu market before travelling to Accra the following morning.

    A post-mortem conducted on 23 May 2026 by Dr Ernest Boakye of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital indicated that she died from massive haemorrhage caused by gunshot wounds.

    The police team that swiftly proceeded to the scene found the body of the deceased with multiple shot wounds. The team recovered 3 mm cartridges and ammunitions from the scene.
