A tragic domestic violence incident in the United States has left eight children dead in Shreveport, with authorities identifying the suspect as 26-year-old Shamar Elkins.
According to police, seven of the victims are believed to be his own children, while the eighth was identified as a relative. The children, aged between three and eleven, were discovered at two separate homes.
Investigators say the suspect had earlier shot his wife, leaving her seriously injured, and also harmed another woman believed to be his girlfriend before carrying out the attacks on the children.
Authorities report that many of the victims were found inside the homes, raising concerns that the incident occurred while they were resting.
Following the shootings, Elkins reportedly fled the scene in a stolen vehicle. Police later located and confronted him, and he was fatally shot after being found armed.
The incident has shocked the local community and renewed concerns about domestic violence and access to weapons. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
