    Helicopter crash: Six victims laid to rest

    The remaining six victims of the August 6 helicopter crash have been buried on Friday, August 15, 2025.

    The burial took place at the Military Cemetery in Tse Addo, Greater Accra Region, drawing government officials, the military high command, bereaved families, and mourners from across the country.

    An interfaith funeral service was earlier held at Black Star Square for the fallen heroes. Families and loves ones laid wreath in honour of these six victims. before they were buried.

    In a solemn mood and burial moment, tears flowed freely as the victims were given their final respect.

    The six laid to rest were: Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Samuel Aboagye, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

    President Mahama earlier paid tribute to the victims and announced the creation of a Support Fund for the children of the victims.

    Also, President Mahama announced that officers of the Ghana Armed Forces who died in the August 6 helicopter crash will receive posthumous promotions in their respective fields.

    The President said the Chief of Defence Staff will oversee the ceremonial presentation of the posthumous promotion insignias to their families in honour of these officers.

    Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala has been promoted to the rank of Wing Commander, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu to the rank of Flight Lieutenant, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah to the rank of Flight Sergeant.

    The President emphasized that these posthumous promotions are not just symbolic gestures but represent the rightful place these officers have earned in the country’s effort to honour them. He added that the benefits due to their families will be reflected in these new ranks.

    Two of the victims — Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed — were buried on August 10.
