Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the Ministry has successfully addressed the major recruitment and payment challenges that plagued the health sector when the current administration took office in 2025.
Speaking at a media briefing in Accra on Monday, October 13, Mr Akandoh said the government had worked diligently to eliminate long-standing delays in the posting and payment of newly trained health professionals.
He highlighted key interventions, including:
- Payment of 883 house officers employed in 2024
- Clearance for 203 doctors
- Financial clearance for 800 medical doctors who completed their housemanship in 2024 but had remained at home due to lack of clearance
- Clearance and payment for 321 pharmacists who completed their house jobs in early 2024
Mr Akandoh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all health workers receive timely postings and salaries, noting that the Ministry was also implementing long-term measures to prevent similar delays in the future.
