According to Fatimatu Abubakar, the former government under President Nana Akufo-Addo had the power to expose and clear out questionable practices within the opposition, but failed to do so. She says the so-called “double salary scandal” involving some NDC leaders should have been thoroughly investigated and cleaned up, a move she believes was fully within reach of Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Her comment suggests that while many people expressed outrage over the issue at the time, the chance to hold those involved accountable slipped away. Abubakar’s remarks raise big questions about political will, fairness and whether some scandals are pursued or quietly ignored depending on who is in power.
For many Ghanaians, this hits hard. If wrongdoing is not exposed equally, trust in both government and opposition is weakened.
