Ghanaian actor Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has sparked national conversation following the launch and promotion of a new political movement known as “The Base,” also referred to as the Ghana First Party. The alleged leader of the party is Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.
The initiative is positioned as a “third force” in Ghana’s political landscape, aiming to challenge the long-standing dominance of the two major parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). According to Agya Koo, the movement seeks to prioritise the needs of ordinary Ghanaians, particularly traders, while promoting tourism and national development.
Videos circulating on social media show the actor mobilising supporters and moving through parts of Accra as part of efforts to formally register the party and build grassroots awareness.
The emergence of “The Base” has generated mixed reactions. While some supporters view it as a bold attempt to reshape Ghana’s political space, critics have questioned its viability, pointing to the entrenched dominance of the NPP and NDC in the country’s democratic system.
