The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 20-year-old woman accused of spreading false information online that wrongly painted a ride-hailing driver as a dangerous criminal.

The suspect, Promise Yayara Asamani, allegedly posted a viral message warning the public against a driver named Selasie Kwaku, describing him as a “killer and thief.”

The post claimed he lured passengers into offline trips before robbing them and even alleged that weapons like pepper spray and hammers could be found in his car.

It went on to urge ride-hailing users to cancel trips if they ever came across him.
The message spread like wildfire across social media, sparking fear among users and seriously damaging the reputation of the driver involved.

But after investigations by the police cybercrime unit, the truth began to emerge.

Officers traced the origin of the post and arrested Asamani.

Preliminary findings suggest the claims were completely false and misleading.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be processed for court soon.

In a statement, the police cautioned the public against sharing unverified information online, warning that such posts can cause unnecessary panic and ruin innocent lives.

They encouraged citizens to use official channels when reporting suspected criminal activity rather than turning to social media with unconfirmed allegations.
