A disturbing incident involving a retired police officer has sparked widespread public outrage in Ghana, with accusations of excessive force by National Security operatives.

Chief Inspector Seibu Sidi (Rtd.), a retired officer, was allegedly assaulted and brutalised by National Security personnel in Trede in the Ashanti Region.

A viral video circulating on social media shows the elderly officer being restrained, dragged, and flogged by several men dressed in tactical gear, as bystanders look on. The footage has drawn strong condemnation, with many Ghanaians calling for immediate accountability.

According to reports, the confrontation reportedly occurred after National Security operatives dismantled a mini sawmill machine on the retired officer’s property while he was away. Details surrounding the exact circumstances leading to the assault remain unclear, and no official statement has been issued by the National Security Secretariat or the Ghana Police Service at the time of this report.

The incident has triggered heated reactions online, with citizens describing the actions as “unprofessional,” “lawless,” and calling for the operatives involved to be interdicted and prosecuted.

Some commentators have drawn parallels to past controversies involving National Security operatives, raising fresh concerns about the conduct and oversight of security agencies in the country.
