Why is he still in custody? – Lawyer demands answers in Wontumi FM case

A legal representative for Wontumi FM presenter, Emmanuel Kwakye Asare, has expressed frustration over what he describes as unnecessary delays in securing bail for his client, who remains in custody despite pleading not guilty to charges against him.

“We cannot understand why the prosecution still insists on keeping him detained when they say investigations are done.

“Our concern is how the prosecution is handling this case, especially given that the law is clear on the conditions for granting bail,” said lawyer Enoch Afoakwah.

Afoakwah confirmed that Kwakye Asare was arrested in Ejisu, Ashanti Region, and charged with one count of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace in an interview on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM.

The charge stems from a broadcast authorities allege contained unsubstantiated allegations relating to the August 6 crash.

According to the lawyer, prosecutors initially requested that his client be remanded to allow for investigations, but this position has not changed even though inquiries are said to be complete.

“He pleaded not guilty, yet he continues to be remanded,” Afoakwah stressed, adding that the case has already suffered multiple adjournments. The next hearing is scheduled for August 27.
