Ghana’s legal community, academics, corporate and governance players, as well as the general public, are set to honor a most distinguished legal practitioner, Tsatsu Tsikata, as he marks 50 years since enrollment as a lawyer at the Ghana Bar.

A commemorative three-day celebration will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) from 6th to 8th August, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily, under the theme “Celebrating 50 Years of Tsatsu Tsikata at the Ghana Bar—1975 to 2025.” The event will spotlight the life, work, and impact of Tsatsu Tsikata through a series of conversations, memories, and reflections, featuring his students, work colleagues, and friends in Ghana and abroad.

THE FIRST EVENING—6th August, 2025—will be on Tsatsu’s legal practice in the courts, military tribunals, corporate world, and in prison, etc.!! Tony Lithur and Thaddeus Sory, former students and both well-respected legal practitioners, will kick off the conversations. Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Adviser on the 24-Hour Economy, and Nana Appia Kyei, a Director of Kosmos Energy Ghana and former Head of the Exploration Department of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), will also speak. Both worked with Tsatsu when he was Chief Executive Officer of GNPC. Lawyer Emile Short, Ghana’s first Commissioner on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and a former Judge of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda at Arusha, Tanzania, will chair the session.

THE SECOND EVENING—7th August, 2025—will feature Tsatsu’s academic career, with a number of former students sharing memories. These will include Kwesi Quartey, former Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, former Secretary to the President, and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Professor Martin Tsamenyi; and Christopher Quaye. These memories will be followed by a lecture by the outgoing Dean of the University of Ghana Law School, Professor Raymond Atuguba, on Challenges of Legal Education in Ghana. Rt. Hon. Doe Adjaho, former Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana and also a former student of Tsatsu’s, will chair the proceedings of the day.

THE THIRD EVENING—8th August, 2025— Mrs. Betty Mould Idrisu, former Attorney General, and Kyeretwie Opoku, a lawyer who worked with Tsatsu at GNPC, will speak on his wider NDC and national involvement, after which Tsatsu will offer his reflections. Prof. Akilagpa Sawyerr, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon, chairs this concluding session and will make the final remarks to bring the curtain down on the 3-day celebration.
