The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has welcomed the new United Nations Resident Coordinator, His Excellency Zia Choudhurry.
Mr Ablakwa received the open letters of His Excellency Zia Choudhurry in Accra on Tuesday, August 5.
As the UN turns 80, he said, Ghana reaffirms its steadfast belief in the UN Charter; renews its unwavering commitment to multilateralism.
He also assured that Ghana shall be consolidating its enviable role as a top 5 troop contributor to UN peacekeeping operations in theatres of conflict across the world.
Ghana will continue to be a lead advocate for UN reforms consistent with the African Union’s Ezulwini Consensus, Mr Ablakwa added.
The Ezulwini Consensus is a position on
international relations and reform of the United Nations, agreed by the African Union.
It calls for a more representative and democratic Security Council, in which Africa, like all other world regions, is represented.
“We shall strengthen our cooperation with the UN in all sectors to achieve President Mahama’s vision for resetting Ghana and achieving the SDGs.
“Congratulations, Excellency Choudhurry your track record and passion for development inspires hope,” he wrote on his X page.
