Tension erupted in the Ejisu Municipality on Tuesday when the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Jerryne Asante, was reportedly confronted in her office by a group linked to local National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives.
The incident followed the MCE’s decision to stop an alleged illegal warehouse and land sale. According to accounts from the scene, the group stormed her office, issued threats of physical assault, and tried to force her out. Police officers stepped in quickly to calm things down and prevent the situation from getting worse.
Videos circulating online show the chaotic moments, including a standoff at the warehouse site and security presence in the office area. Local residents and assembly members have strongly condemned the event, calling it pure thuggery and lawlessness against a government official.
One assembly member working under the MCE described the attack as unprovoked and urged the Ghana Police Service to investigate swiftly and bring those responsible to justice. Many on social media echoed this call, stressing that such intimidation has no place in local governance.
This episode adds to ongoing worries about political tensions and land-related disputes in parts of the Ashanti Region. As of now, there has been no official comment from the MCE’s office or the police, but pressure is mounting for a full probe and accountability.
