Minister Slams Arab Contractors Over Delays on Kumasi Outer Ring Road

Kwame Governs Agbodza, has voiced strong dissatisfaction with Arab Contractors for the slow pace of work on the 47-kilometre Kumasi Outer Ring Road project.

During an on-site visit, the minister highlighted significant delays that are hindering progress on this key infrastructure initiative under the government’s “Big Push” programme aimed at easing heavy traffic congestion in the Kumasi metropolis.

The project is expected to provide much-needed relief to commuters by creating an alternative route around the city. However, Agbodza pointed out challenges including insufficient advancement on the ground and issues related to compensation for affected residents. Under the contract terms, the contractor is responsible for pre-financing these payments.

This latest criticism comes despite recent government assurances that all contractors on Big Push projects have received full payments with no outstanding arrears.

The minister’s remarks underscore the administration’s push to accelerate major road works and hold contractors accountable for timely delivery. Residents in the area are hopeful that the issues will be resolved quickly to get the project back on track.

Work on the Outer Ring Road remains a priority for reducing bottlenecks in Kumasi, with expectations that steady progress will soon follow this high-level intervention.
