Hon. Philip Kwabena Boahen, former District Chief Executive for Suaman District, has condemned what he describes as a series of arrests and intimidation targeting communicators and social media activists of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a press release issued on 15 May 2026, Hon. Boahen said he was deeply concerned about the actions, which he alleged were carried out by the NDC government through some security agencies.

He described the developments as attempts to silence opposing voices and weaken the democratic space we have fought hard to protect.

“The arrests and harassment of several NPP communicators and activists in recent times, including outspoken party communicators and social media advocates who have merely expressed their opinions on national issues, must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians,” part of the statement read.

Hon. Boahen, who is also a member of the NPP, said democracy thrives on freedom of expression, tolerance of divergent views, and respect for political opposition, not intimidation and fear.

He called on state institutions and security agencies not to be reduced to tools for political persecution.

He assured NPP communicators, polling station executives, youth activists, and party members that the party stands firmly and boldly behind you, adding that intimidation would not suppress the determination of its members.

The former DCE urged party members nationwide to remain bold, courageous, fearless, and focused and to continue engaging Ghanaians with discipline as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

“These intimidatory tactics will not be tolerated, and history will judge those who misuse state power against political opponents. Ghana belongs to all of us, and democracy must be protected at all costs,” he stated.
